Relics

Oh my, this blog has become a relic for sure. It's been more than a year since I last updated it, though somehow I gathered over 10,000 views on my last post(!). Talk about going out on top.

But since the internet wants to keep this blog alive, I guess I won't officially shutter it, and instead I will give it another log to add to the fire, keep this blog chugging along a bit more.

Does anyone ever worry about losing internet related sentimental stuff? I worry about my email and xanga entries going away. I think I will pay the 4 dollars for a month of premium to archive all of this. It'd be nice to have on my computer.

Hard to believe time goes by. I'll have left 4 different schools in this blog's history come may. But, I'll hopefully continue, come what may.

Election Primer

Super Tuesday Primer!

Democrat and Republican Primaries

Naturally, the internet is full of great information about candidates. This is a great source. My thoughts are not. In offering my assessments, I plan on merely making associations and offering short thoughts on the candidates.

Democrats:

Hillary Clinton = Wicked Witch of the West

I know, I know, too easy. But you see, this is not just an attack on Clinton. Both women are very intelligent, powerful, and perhaps misunderstood. Some people think she is an evil witch, while others insist she is actually kind and her image is just one that is fostered on her. Either way, a huge amount of people think both of these women are evil, and they both have attack monkeys. Personally, I am not sold on her.

John Edwards = Fabio

Pretty boys. Both of these men love attention, and yet both seem like they have been around a bit too long. Edwards loves the "People vs. the Powerful" rhetoric, and uh, I bet Fabio is a powerful person. Both men have amazing hair. I am sure both men have very interesting things to say, but to me, I just can't listen, they are both has-been pretty boys. No vote for Edwards.

(The lack of mockery for a certain candidate is an implicit endorsement. If you really care, as me why personally.)

Republicans:

John Mccain = Paul Simon

They look alike! Seriously, I bet they are brothers.  Also, both are really old dudes. Otherwise, they probably don't have much in common. Paul wrote great music, and spent the late 60's and early 70's fighting Art Garfunkel. John spent the late 60's and early 70's fighting the Vietnamese. John Mccain cares a lot about immigration. Paul Simon wrote a cool song called "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard." Both pretty decent people, but really old. OLD.

Mitt Romney = Khan (Ricardo Montalban)

Another Edwards type here. Pretty boy who is all about People vs. the Powerful. Only he is on the other side of the battle. While Edwards likes people, Romney is powerful. Which makes me think of another powerful guy, Khan. Romney and Khan seem to share that really powerful, scary, egotistical, handsome, supervillian vibe. Also, Khan has strange supporters who have some crazy ideas about how to treat others. Romney is a Mormon. Make your own jokes here. Anyway,  I really see no need to vote for Mitt Romney, he'll probably find some way to take over the world anyway. If Romeny wins, I want everyone to yell with me...  (MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Mike Huckabee = Chuck Norris
(Huck = Chuck)

Two very fierce people with similar social views. I don't want to label them as extremists, but let's just say the rest of the nation wouldn't agree with them. They both underwent transformations. Huck from fatso to presidential candidate. Chuck from F movie actor to cult celebrity. They also both support Mike Huckabee for President. And, apparently, they are both pretty funny people. It'd be funny if I ever considered voting for Huck.

Rudy Giuliani = Invisible Man

Seriously, what the hell happened to this guy? He seemed very normal for a while, then suddenly he started experimenting with the far right. The invisible man experimented with things beyond his control as well. Both started losing their sanity. The invisible man started killing people. Rudy Giuliani killed his campaign. Neither have been seen in quite a while. Why vote for a man who disappears for long periods of time and might go crazy at any time. Not vote for him. By the way, bonus points for who can identify the actor debuting as The Invisible Man in the classic.

All in all, I guess I'll support Mccain, he seems the least crazy, and Paul Simon wrotes some awesome songs.

Select State Propositions

Honestly, I don't know about a few of these propositions, so I will only address 6.

Prop 91: Something weird.
So apparently, NOBODY supports this. It doesn't belong on the ballot, and the original backers said to vote no. So of course, I support this prop with all my heart and soul.

Prop 93: Term Limits.
Term limits are bad. But experience is good. If you dislike term limits, don't worry, they are ineffective, because people will stay around longer. If you like term limits, don't worry, once the jerks in charge stay in office for a few years more, the next generation will be just as inexperienced as the current ones. I swear, sometimes democracy is too complex.

Aww hell, who needs term limits anyway?

Prop 94-98: Indian Gaming.
From my understanding, Indians will give us a pile of money in order to screw southern california communities. Yes, I know this sounds like a win win, but nothing is ever a win win. What do we really gain?

Oh, a pile of money.

Still, it sounds too good to be true. So just to be safe, vote no. Or vote no for 3, but yes for 1, just to change things up.

Local Measures:

Gavin Newsom. Wait, the election already happened? Should there have been some sort of competition? Or at least an announcement of who won? Oh well.

Seriously though, Measure A: The Park Bond.

Ok, I know everybody hates taxes. But we tax for a reason, and if you must tax, what is a better thing to support than our parks? Enjoyed by all, I personally think throwing money at parks is a good thing. If not, you shouldn't vote in SF, move to the desert, where such matters won't be present.

Happy voting!

Bah to Bri and John

Stolen from Bri and John:

i took this from john because i have nothing better to do.

Put your iTunes/Winamp/WMP on shuffle. Say the following questions aloud, and press play. Use the song title as the answer to the question. NO CHEATING!

1. How does the world see me?
-Field of Diamonds in the Sky - Johnny Cash
Uh, people think I like nature?

2. Will I have a happy life?
Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac
Oh crap. I guess I'll never get away from the woman who loves me.

3. What do my friends think of me?
If not for you - Bob Dylan
Apparently they think I am awesome, and do a lot of stuff.

4. Do people secretly lust after me?
Do Ya - Electric Light Orchestra
Amazing song, and anthem for those who lust after others. Do ya want my love?

5. How can I make myself happy?
Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
By being really angry at women? Once again, amazing song.

6. What should I do with my life?
Graceland - Paul Simon
I should drive to Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee.

7. Will I ever have children?
Don't think twice, it's alright - Bob Dylan
More Dylan, but I guess I shouldn't worry about it, it will work out?

8. What is some good advice for me?
Play with Fire - Rolling Stones.
This quiz is amazing.

9. How will I be remembered?
Go Insane - Fleetwood Mac
Well, perhaps this quiz ain't so hot. Now I know.

10. What's my signature dancing song?
Tunnel of Love - Dire Straits
Uh... Upbeat song, fun to dance to? I guess it's good.

11. What's my current theme song?
Rodeo - Hoe Down - Aaron Copland
I think about riding horses and eating beef. It is a cool song for a theme though!

12. What do others think is my current theme song?
Last Night - Traveling Wilburys
Song about getting drunk and robbed by a hot girl. Ok.

13. What shall they play at my funeral?
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
They actually will play this song at my funeral.

14. What type of men/women do I like?
Ramblin Man - Allman Brothers
I like Ramblin men?

15. How's my love life?
Say You Love Me - Fleetwood Mac
I want someone to tell me how great things are.

Good Survey, especially since I have it on basically my favorite music. Wish I got some eagles in. Oh well.

To keep on keepin on

Obviously this will never be regularly updated, oh well. Instead, here is a large snapshot of my life at the moment.

2nd year law student! That is me. Sadly, that would almost suffice in terms of an overview of what I am doing, but I suppose I could go into a little more detail.

Naturally, most of my time is taken as being a law student. Read read read, then f---in' read some more. Not to say I do not enjoy all of this. Those who would point out that I should be prepared because history majors read a lot, I say bah to you. Unlike the wonderful world of undergraduateness, you actually get nailed if you don't do the reading. The amusing thing is, even though I do the reading, I still get mildly alarmed when I hear "Mr. Guibert, would you please state the issue and rulings presented in Eldred v. Ashcroft?

All in all though, a good experience. For non academic stuff, I amuse myself by being on the Maritime Law Journal, which deals with boats as most can probably surmise.

One kick ass thing is that I understand many of these olde english cases that seem to appear at random. To all those who said majoring in english history from 1066-1945 was a useless endeavor, I still agree with you, but it was fun and helps now and then.

I am also quite happy to see more and more friends have come closer to my center of gravity. Even if the transition is from Washington to davis, or new haven to berkeley, closer is still better. There are some exceptions of course, but still, lets be happy.

Age also sets in. I admit that last year I could shrug off being out of college by saying that all my friends were still there, I am just young. Now all of my real classmates graduated, so my age group is emancipated and I am painfully aware that my younger friends are just that. Oh well, 22 isn't that old right? just a transition.

And lastly, I mention distractions, which i love. In addition to my friends, I succumb to wasting time by following my beloved bears, giants, and even the niners. I'll probably take my truck up to davis soon enough. For my own health, I try to stay active by walking a lot, jogging, bowling, and sloshball. Perhaps sloshball isn't healthy, but it is fun.

So that is my state of the Gus. Now I return to reading and listening to some rockin' paul simon or dire straits.

P.S. 6 years already? Can't put it into words.

Umm, yeah, didn't have a chance to write a good one this year. Sorry. Perhaps facebook changes will appease you somewhat.
